"Spirits of Old Park Ridge" Tours
at the Town of Maine Cemetery
Saturday, October 16th, 10 am – 2 pm
Join us at Town of Maine Cemetery for our popular tour program. Our cast of ‘spirits’ of those interred in the Cemetery, including mayors and military, merchants and farmers, teachers and pioneers, will speak to their life and times. Spend a quiet hour in the company of the many Park Ridgians resting here, while adding to your knowledge of the history and stories of the people and events which have made our community a wonderful place.
Town of Maine Cemetery is located at Touhy Avenue and Dee Road. Parking is available along Rose Avenue to the east, or along the lanes in the Cemetery.
There will be an admission fee. More details to be posted soon.

Annual Meeting of the Society
Sunday, October 17th
at the Park Ridge Country Club
More details will be posted soon.

Society Visits Local Elementary
School Groups
In April, the Society brought a traveling history lesson to Roosevelt School. Kate Maurer’s nine first-grade Cub Scouts received a visit from Elizabeth Ryles, who spoke to the Scouts about our local history and displayed some of the artifacts from our collections.
On May 4, all second grades at Field School, over 100 students, were entertained by a demonstration of the history and science of telephony, household illumination, mechanical toys and early talking machines, as presented by Leo Rizzetto. Jeff Caudill and Paul Adlaf assisted with a separate overview of local history in this City Centennial year.
On May 24, Albert Buchheit Day, all students in the upper grades at St. Andrews School came over to Hodges Park to enjoy a ‘View of History’ tour from the perimeter of the Park. The Society and Heritage Committee facilitated these tours.
In June, teacher Sue Stevens brought her Carpenter School students and their parents to Hodges Park to enjoy the same View of History tour, as conducted by Elizabeth Ryles.

Albert Buchheit Day – Monday, May 24th
Albert Buchheit Day on Monday, May 24, organized by the Park Ridge City Centennial Steering Committee, offers an opportunity to recognize the first Park Ridge mayor and salute our first 100 years as a city. Dr. Buchheit was only 33 at the time of his election May 24, 1910, to guide our small village into a new life as a city. Meet us in Hodges Park at 147 Vine Avenue between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. for an introduction to local history, including a walk past Dr. Buchheit’s residence and office building adjoining the park.
Also visit City Hall to see displays recalling life in the new City of Park Ridge, as provided by City and Library staff.

Wednesday, May 26th at 7:00 pm
at the ‘Park Ridge Inn’ Summit and Touhy Avenues
We Welcome Peter Malone to Park Ridge for a
Historical Society Speaking Program
Topic: “Park Ridge in 1910”
The Park Ridge Inn, built in 1960, was the second hotel built in Park Ridge, and is now known as the Summit of Uptown. Parking is readily available across Summit in the underground garage.
Pete is the grandson of legendary Uptown builder William H. Malone, our second Mayor. Malone was the owner and builder of the Pickwick Building in 1928, and Citizen’s bank the following year.
Marc Dennison, owner of the Summit, has prepared a plaque for presentation to the Society this evening. It includes small coupons of each of the four colored bricks used in construction of the Park Ridge Inn in 1960.
